This northern municipality’s existing secondary clarifier thickened the Waste Activated Sludge (WAS) generated from an oxidation ditch process to yield 0.5-1% dry solids. The anaerobic digestor which followed the thickening process had become hydraulically overloaded prompting a need to further reduce WAS volume. FRCs design provided a DAF thickener after the clarifier to further reduce WAS volume and achieve 4-5% dry solids before sending it to the anaerobic digestor.
