Project Description
A leading company in the plant based oil and fats industry needs to discharge water from a new plant into the Gulf of Mexico. This new facility will generate over 100,000 GPD of wastewater with high levels of Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG), and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and needed a cost-effective solution that could meet the strictest of limits.
With the FRC turnkey solution, the client will recover commercially valuable byproduct and re-use water for their cooling towers.
The FRC Solution
Rotary Drum Screen – Used to remove any “garbage” such as plastic gloves, hair nets, etc.
Acidulation Tank – Reduce pH to precipitate the emulsified oils
OWS – Recover commercially valuable fats and oils, removing a significant portion of the FOG
Effluent Buffer Tank – Bring pH back to neutral
Equalization Tank – Homogenize wastewater for consistent for consistent wastewater characteristics. Aeration mixing is provided to prevent anoxic conditions and formation of ammonia.
Flocculator – Chemicals (coagulant, caustic, acid, and polymer) are dosed to precipitate the colloidal solids.
DAF – Float the precipitated solids, thereby removing TSS, FOG, and insoluble BOD prior to biological treatment (MBR).
Aeration Tank – Air is supplied to provide oxygen in water, which biomass requires to grow.
MBR – Removes BOD for water re-use in the cooling towers and for final discharge to the Gulf of Mexico.
Filter Press – Increase dry solids content of the DAF sludge to reduce disposal costs – ready for landfill.
