  • Oil & Water Separators - FRC Systems

Oil-Water Separators (OWS) are used to recover and separate oil from water and allows for the oily water to sit undisturbed until oil globules begin to float. All Products FRC Systems » Products Oil & Water Separators PDF Product Sheet Solutions for Wastewater Treatment & Management Previous Product Next Product Oil-Water Separators (OWS) are used to recover and separate oil from water. Typically, the oil-water separation process allows for the oily water to sit undisturbed until oil globules begin to float. For years, American Petroleum Institute (API) separators have been the de facto solution for oil separation, but advances in technology and process design have introduced more cost-effective methods. FRC engineered its OWS design, the Corrugated Plate Interceptor (CPI), upon these technological advancements. CPIs can be used in a variety of applications; from straightforward oil and gas oil-water separation to more complicated oil recovery in various food and beverage and general manufacturing applications. Some of the factors that go into designing an OWS range from the specific gravity of oil, size of oil droplets, temperature, salinity, and the consistency of the oil loading and hydraulic throughput. CPI Plate Packs/Compact Footprint Inclined plate packs allow for influent wastewater to remain laminar while also lowering the footprint. The plate packs can be installed in either an above-ground CPI or as modules placed in a below-ground CPI. Material of Construction FRC above-ground CPIs are constructed using high-end stainless steel that’s resistant to corrosion, durable, and can be installed indoors or outdoors. Depending on the application, we can accommodate various alloys including stainless steel 316ti, duplex stainless steel, or carbon-coated steel. Support Structures FRCs CPI skid is constructed out of high-end stainless steel, which makes it just as durable and long-lasting as our CPI. The CPI access catwalks are OSHA compliant and are constructed of stainless steel with FRP grating. They are completely customizable with stairs or ladders the shape required to accommodate your design and facility requirements. Skimming System FRCs CPIs use a top automated chain-and-flight skimmer which is beneficial in combatting the challenges in applications with high viscosity oil. The static skim pipe has no moving parts to minimize maintenance requirements. Gas-Tight Cover FRC gas-tight covers are engineered for applications that require complete segregation of the influent and atmosphere. The gas-tight covers are constructed of high-end stainless steel and come equipped with flange connections for sweeping gas such as nitrogen and dissolving gases. Other optional features include, plexi-glass access hatches, flame arrestors and vacuum relief valves. API Large Free Area The large free area of the API allows for the handling of high oil concentration as well as oil surges. API Skimming Systems FRCs API systems use a top automated chain-and-flight skimmer for combatting the challenges in applications with high viscosity oil along with a bottom automated chain-and-flight skimmer for the evacuation of settled solids.

  • PWL Series Open-Style DAF - FRC Systems

The PWL Series dissolved air flotation (DAF) system is an open tank, low-built design optimized for treating wastewater heavily loaded with solids. All Products FRC Systems » Products PWL Series Open-Style DAF PDF Product Sheet Solutions for Wastewater Treatment & Management Previous Product Next Product The FRC PWL Series dissolved air flotation (DAF) system is an open tank, low-built design optimized for treating wastewater heavily loaded with solids. The PWL DAF provides the large amount of free surface area required for flotation and separation in these applications. DAF systems can be used to effectively remove Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen demand (COD), and other pollutants from wastewater. Open style units are particularly proficient for high solids concentration and can be built wider and longer as the free separation area requirement increases. Material of Construction When you invest in a DAF system, you want something that is going to hold up in a harsh environment. FRC constructs our DAF using high-end stainless steel. Stainless steel resists rust and retains its strength between temperatures of -320°F to 1,500°F ( -196° to 816° C), so it holds up in both indoor and outdoor applications. Even after decades of use, stainless steel tanks can be retrofitted and continue to work for decades longer because the steel structure remains sound. Support Structures Just like our DAF, all FRC skids and catwalks are constructed out of high-end stainless steel so they will be equally durable and long-lasting. Our access catwalks are OSHA compliant and completely customizable and can be designed with stairs or ladders in a variety of different shapes to accommodate your design and facility requirements. Depending on the application, we can accommodate various alloys including Stainless Steel 316ti and Duplex Stainless Steel. Aeration System FRC takes an engineered approach with our aeration system. Our centrifugal recirculation pumps are used for just that – recirculating water. They’re readily available from any pump vendor, have a high tolerance for solids, can be made of extremely hard materials, and are less expensive to own and operate than specialty whitewater pumps. By placing the responsibility for generating whitewater on a static tube made of stainless steel, the centrifugal pump can focus on what it does best – move water. The whitewater is generated in a static “air dissolving tube” downstream from the pump as water comes in contact with small volumes of compressed air. This design aspect allows for almost instant saturation by creating higher interface between the clarified effluent and the compressed air. Dewatering Grid The sludge dewatering grid helps operators control sludge thickness, eliminates pre-mature removal of solids, reduces build-up and/or re-entrainment of sludge, and ultimately generates drier sludge. Drier sludge means less required storage capacity, less dewatering equipment, and less chemical expenses on re-processing filtrate water (the water that separates out of sludge after dewatering) through the DAF system. You have everything to gain by going with a DAF system that’s engineered to produce drier sludge. Open Flotation Cell & Counter-Current Skimmer In PWL DAF systems, wastewater is introduced into the DAF tank and processed in a flow-through manner – wastewater comes in one side and goes out the other. While many DAF system designs push sludge across the entire length of the tank in the same direction as the wastewater flow, FRC’s PWL design uses a skimmer assembly that rotates against the hydraulic flow of the water. This design shortens sludge skimming distance and eliminates solids carry-over. Gas-Tight Cover FRC can provide a custom engineered stainless-steel, gas-tight cover for your open-style DAF if your application requires complete segregation of the influent and atmosphere. The gas-tight covers are designed with flange connections for sweeping gas such as nitrogen and dissolving gases. Plexi-glass access hatches, flame arrestors and vacuum relief valves are also available as options.

  • Dairy - Turnkey Solution - FRC Project Profile

FRC has been the trusted engineer to help manage the wastewater treatment needs for this Canadian based top ten worldwide dairy processor as they grow and expand across North America. All Projects FRC Systems » Projects Dairy Turnkey Solution Food & Beverage Solutions for Wastewater Treatment & Management Previous Project Next Project FRC Components Open-Style DAF, High-Rate DAF, Flocculator, Biological Treatment, MBBR Project Description FRC has been the trusted engineer to help manage the wastewater treatment needs for this Canadian based top ten worldwide dairy processor as they grow and expand across North America. This particular facility generates over 360,000 gallons of wastewater per day. The original wastewater treatment system design consisted of a biotower, a Continuous Waste Activated Sludge (CWAS) system, and a clarifier. Without proper pretreatment, Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) was able to enter the biotower, which destroyed the biomass, disrupting the CWAS system downstream. The clarifier was also hydraulically overloaded, resulting in poor performance. The FRC solution was to install a Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) unit as a pretreatment step and to increase biological treatment capacity by installing a Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) system prior to the CWAS system. The MBBR system was designed with future expansion in mind and will eventually replace the CWAS system. Following biological treatment, FRC installed a secondary DAF unit for biomass separation. FRC was able to provide a complete turnkey solution, including the incorporation of controls, monitoring and automation into the existing Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. The FRC Solution Primary Flocculator – Chemicals dosed to precipitate the colloidal solids and emulsified oils Primary High-Rate DAF – Float the precipitated solids yielding effluent ready for biological treatment Biological Treatment – MBBR used to remove soluble BOD and as a result it creates biosolids Secondary Flocculator – Short flocculator to precondition biosolids with flocculant Secondary Open-Style DAF – Float the biosolids, yielding clean effluent water Parameter Design Data Flow (gpm) 250 Flow (m3/h) 56.8 TSS (mg/L) 1235 FOG (mg/L) 1400 BOD (mg/L) 3450 Design Data Previous Project Next Project Submit a Project Profile

  • Flocculators - FRC Systems

Flocculators provide the mixing action and retention time required to chemically treat wastewater. All Products FRC Systems » Products Flocculators PDF Product Sheet Solutions for Wastewater Treatment & Management Previous Product Next Product Flocculators, both Plug-Flow Reactors (PFR) and Continuous-Stirred Tank Reactors (CSTR), provide the mixing action and retention time required to chemically treat wastewater. Chemical treatment includes coagulation, pH adjustment, and flocculation. Coagulants are used to break the emulsions in the wastewater and form micro-flocs. Flocculation through polymers is used to agglomerate the coagulated particles creating macro-flocs that can be easily removed by dissolved air flotation (DAF). As with all FRC systems, our engineers meticulously design each element of our flocculators, making them arguably the best performing chemical reaction vessels on the market. Compact Footprint and No Moving Parts FRC PFR flocculators are engineered with static inline mixers. This unique design reduces the inline pipe size for a short duration to achieve the required mixing action. As an added benefit, FRC PFRs have a compact footprint to save valuable facility space. Forming “Flocs” A coagulant is dosed to destabilize colloidal particles. This forms micro-flocs or pin-flocs. A flocculant is dosed to agglomerate the micro-flocs forming robust macro-flocs. The two key factors in this process are proper mixing and maintaining the integrity of the floc. To achieve proper mixing, FRC flocculators use short, static inline static mixing zones. We reduce and expand the pipe diameter over a short pipe run in the reactor piping: one zone right after coagulant and caustic/acid addition and the other after flocculant addition. This accelerates the flow-through velocity and disperses the chemicals in and immediately after the mixing zone. The FRC engineered design uses wide-radius bends instead of 90-degree elbows. Unlike the tight 90-degree elbows, these wide-radius bend do not shear flocculated solids after they have been formed. This allows for the formed flocs to coalesce into larger, fluffier particles over the rest of their retention time in the flocculator. By not shearing flocculated solids after they are formed, less chemicals are needed to achieve the desired level of separation and clarification. Air Injection Ports The air injection ports introduce micro-bubbles into the flocculator. This entrains air into the flocs from the beginning for easy separation upon entering the DAF. Visual Inspection of Wastewater Throughout the Process Sample ports are strategically placed throughout the flocculator to examine the changing water structure at each chemical dosage step. These ports show the wastewater at these points: Raw wastewater Coagulation and pH adjustment Flocculation DAF whitewater injection Materials of Construction PFRs can be constructed of: HDPE PVC / CPVC SS304 / SS316 CSTRs can be constructed of: FRP (single-chamber tank) SS304 / SS316ti / Duplex SS (dual-chamber tank) Complete Flocculator Systems Flocculator applications can be enhanced with auxiliary equipment such as: Chemical dosing pumps Flow instrumentation Control panels including PLC & HMI-rated NEMA 4X (SS304 enclosure) CSTR Flocculator Features Continuous-stirred tank reactors are tanks with mixers and can be used in lieu of a plug flow reactor. These allow you to: Reduce the impact of continuous wide swings in flow rates Increase residence time for the coagulation/flocculation process due to slow reaction kinetics Produce not enough static head available to feed the DAF System

  • Biological MBBR - FRC Systems

The Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) biological treatment method uses small pieces of carrier material designed to maximize surface area and promote biomass growth. All Products FRC Systems » Products Biological MBBR PDF Product Sheet Solutions for Wastewater Treatment & Management Previous Product Next Product FRC Engineers use biological treatment primarily to remove biodegradable contaminants in wastewater. The FRC Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) biological treatment method uses small pieces of carrier material which are designed to maximize surface area and promote biomass growth. The MBBR tank is filled with these carriers, typically 30-70% by volume. The tank is aerated to feed the biomass and circulate the carriers throughout the tank, hence the ‘moving bed’ description. The bacteria grow on the carriers and consume contaminants, converting them to more biomass which can then leave the tank and be separated with a Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) system or another form of clarification. FRC uses MBBR technology to remove Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) from wastewater, as well as to remove nitrogen and nitrogen-based compounds, phosphorous, and some forms of chemical oxygen demand (COD). MBBR systems are applicable in a wide variety of industrial and municipal applications. Material of Construction FRC’s standard MBBR systems are installed in above-ground tanks made of durable stainless steel. We can also install the system in your existing concrete basin if it is sufficient in size. Completely Automated Systems Since there is no balancing or additional processing required for the Return Activated Sludge (RAS), no additional intervention is required. This means no Mixed Liquid Suspended Solids (MLSS) analysis is needed. The FRC MBBR process gives a complete hands-off approach for the wastewater treatment system. High Biomass Concentration The carrier media in the MBBR allows for a much higher biomass concentration than in a typical tank without media. This means that the system can be installed with a much smaller tank than a conventional biological system. Design Flexibility An existing MBBR system can be upgraded for plant expansion by simply adding more media to the existing tank and introducing additional oxygen. This eliminates the need for a new tank.

The Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) system method uses submerged membranes to remove bacteria solids with biodegradable contaminants. All Products FRC Systems » Products Biologicial MBR PDF Product Sheet Solutions for Wastewater Treatment & Management Previous Product Next Product The FRC Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) system method uses submerged membranes rather than traditional clarification to remove bacteria solids in wastewater with biodegradable contaminants. This is done by letting bacteria grow in the wastewater to consume the contaminants, converting them to bacteria solids that can be more easily removed from the wastewater. MBR technology is frequently used to remove Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) from wastewater, and can also be used to remove nitrogen and nitrogen-based compounds, phosphorous, and some forms of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). FRC engineers can show you how MBR systems can be applied in a wide variety of industrial and municipal applications. Material of Construction FRC’s MBR systems can be installed in steel or concrete tanks. High-Quality Effluent The membranes in the MBR system are very effective at removing suspended solids from water, including biomass. As a result, the effluent from an MBR system results in a much lower suspended solids concentration than a traditional clarification method. Effluents from MBR systems can be re-used as plant service water, or with some further treatment such as disinfection, can be re-used as potable water or directly discharged into the pristine environment. Small Footprint The membrane tank in an MBR system generally has a much smaller footprint than a traditional clarifier designed for a biological system of the same size or rate.

  • Rotary Drum Screens - FRC Systems

FRC designs systems to take advantage of the low power consumption and small footprint of rotary drum screens to protect and prolong more expensive downstream equipment’s lifespan. All Products FRC Systems » Products Rotary Drum Screens PDF Product Sheet Solutions for Wastewater Treatment & Management Previous Product Next Product Proper screening is the first component to consider as part of an effective wastewater treatment system. Screens can effectively remove coarse solids and reduce Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) from wastewater. FRC designs systems to take advantage of the low power consumption and small footprint of screens to protect and prolong more expensive downstream equipment’s lifespan. The FRC engineering approach recognizes that every application is unique and designs a solution specifically for your individual needs. Our internally fed rotary drum screens are available as flat-welded wedge wire or perforated plate with openings typically ranging from 0.010” (250 microns) to 0.1” (2,540 microns) depending on the application, flow rate, and the nature of the solids. Screen diameter can reach 80”, with lengths up to 180” on a single screen. Our screens include a custom headbox design, splash guard enclosures, trunnion wheels, drive system, spray bar, auto chain oiler, and base frame. Materials of Construction Our screens are constructed using high-end stainless steel, which is resistant to corrosion, can be installed indoors or outdoors, and is extremely durable and long lasting. Depending on the application, we can accommodate various alloys including Stainless Steel 316ti and Duplex Stainless Steel. Deliberate Rotational Speed Our rotary drum screens rotate at a deliberately slow rate. Other manufacturers rotate their screens around 10-12 RPM. We like to look at it as the slower, the better. At a slower rate, solids roll and tumble on the lower part of the drum for longer amounts of time before discharge, which maximizes solids dewatering. Because of the lower rotational velocity, our rotary drum screens need less water at a lower pressure to keep the screen clean. Most importantly: our sprays do not run all the time. Complete Screen Systems Screen applications can be enhanced with auxiliary equipment such as: Flow and level instrumentation Transfer pumps Buffer tanks (SS304 for screen mounting) Equalization tanks with pH control and mixing
